Hello OLV Families!
This is obviously a bittersweet Weekly Update, as it is my last one of the school year and my last school year closing at OLV. I leave with nothing but great memories of our families and what we have built over the last five years, and hope that each of you will see a little bit of your own contributions to the letter I have attached to this update.
As this is the final update of the year, we wanted to make sure that everyone is ready to strat preparing for next school year, even as you enjoy this summer as much as you can under the conditions we find ourselves in with the ongoing pandemic and societal changes that promise to be historic when we look back at them.
Attached you will find an explanation of the summer work that we are asking all students to complete to prevent any "summer slide". Being ready for next school year and keeping skills sharp is more critical than ever this summer as we learn together just what education will look like in August and September. Please know that we will support your students in any way possible as we address their educational, social, and faith needs going forward at OLV!
You will also find supply lists for the coming school year for each grade (and for middle school students in general across grades). Please read them carefully and try to get things early, as supplies will be in short supply the closer we get to the start of the school year; this is why we are sending them now instead of the traditional July mailing.
Our school hours for the summer will be 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM Monday through Thursday during the summer. Please feel free to call the school any time during those hours, or leave a message at other times, to receive information or contact details if the school staff can't answer your question immediately. While most families have completed their registration information and FACTS information already, anyone who has not done so needs to do so as soon as possible so that we can prepare in terms of staffing, equipment, and supplies for the students' return in late August.
Finally, I need to announce a few staff changes for next school year. We all bid a fond farewell to Mrs. Akeesha Kelly and Miss Tory Gomez, who are moving on to other opportunities after a year at OLV, and we also wish to wish Mrs. Susan Naylor the best of luck as she leaves Our Lady of Victory after more than 20 years of dedicated service to our school community. Each will be missed and will remain in our prayers as they move to the next phase of their careers. One other change which we are really looking forward to with great anticipation is Miss Jordan Sdanowich's move to first grade, where she will replace Miss Gomez.
Of course the school will send out announcements for the new hires in grades 3, 4, and 6 as soon as they are determined by the Archdiocese. Change is always hard, but flexibility and adaptability is one of the key skills of our current times, and I'm sure that the community will support all of our staff that work so hard on behalf of your children and the Our Lady of Victory community with dedication, prayers, and most of all (of course) - KINDNESS!
I wish each of you the best in the coming years, and hope that our paths may cross at many fortunate and surprising times in the future. It has been areal honor to serve you and to have a chance to love your children. OLV will always be in my heart, and you will always be in my prayers.
Have a Great Summer!
Mrs. Lois Gorman, Principal - Our Lady of Victory School ABK
